I've got into photography about 4 years ago. I never thought it would get to the point where I would want to make it my career but it did. My photography is more dependent on what i'm shooting and what i want to show the viewer.
For example when shooting flowers i show the abstract nature of the flower along their colors to create a beautiful picture. When shooting landscapes or travel I try to enhance with filters, if the scene is not popping, or show aspects of the place that people may casually overlook as being not picture worthy.
